In July of 2004 I received this info:
I got a copy of this from a trader who told me he dubbed it from a reel to reel to audio cdr. This might account for the track markers. I also have copies of the opening act Maria Muldaur for 1 if not both of her opening sets. I was told this is from a set of old reels that were purchased at a garage sale for I believe $1 each. There were some other rare perfomances with the garage sale reels including Mance Lipscomb, John Jackson, Robert Pete Williams, Skip Spence and Dave Bromberg. The source is likely in the Cambridge MA area as it was given as the location fro some of the tapes. All were apparently recorded in later 1972
It appears that someone did a haphazard hack at some source tapes (bad track indicies, etc,) and made these CDs. The production is poor but the source quality and performance are outstanding, especially considering the age.
The voice track is skewed mostly to the right channel and the bass track is mostly in the left channel; otherwise an excellent recording (clean and crisp).
There are several abrupt track transitions, one track is repeated, one track is silence.
18-Aug-02 I (Kevin) spent several hours and edited these source CDs into a more pleasant 2-CD version of this collection. I removed the silence and duplicate track, patched the two-part track back together and removed 10-15 minutes of them tuning up (they needed to re-tune after nearly every track). I suggest you get that one instead, it's a lot more listenable. I do have a copy of the original three source CDs if you want them for some reason.
